In the shadow of Africa’s second tallest peak, Mount Kenya, Simeone Farm produces organic mangoes. The women who live and work here don green attire whenever a new child is being born to symbolize new life and celebrate as a community.
One of the most significant traditions in this area of northeastern Kenya is a commitment to ensure that no one, whether a visitor or a resident, goes without food. The members of the community have a designated feeding point where each member drops off food to care for those in need, including those on a long journey. The main staple of the area is githeri, a mashup of corn, beans, potatoes and green vegetables.
