Mwingi
Mwin • gee

In the hills of eastern Kenya, the members of the Mwingi West Horticultural Society farm mangoes and passionfruit. The women and men of this cooperative have a great passion for farming a variety of fruits, earning them the nickname Wamatunda, which roughly translates to the place of the fruit.
Mwingi West has another unique characteristic: the members engage in a friendly annual competition to see who can gather the most high-quality mangoes. The winner receives a reward, and each member gathers from at least 20 trees! Sometimes, husbands and wives even join the same cooperative, where members wear white to symbolize peace.
