Hope Fruit Farmers
Hope • Fruit • Farmers
Hope Fruit Farmers are located in the remote village of Acandyang in North Eastern Uganda. Here you will find a group of women who range in ages from 20-60, mostly from the Iteso tribe. Many of the women speak English as the official language in Uganda, but some also speak Ateso in this region.
As you can imagine, weather plays a crucial role in the dehydration of fruits. The days are filled will a lot of sunshine and the land contains a lot of fertile soil — making it the perfect location for growing and drying mangoes and jackfruits.
The women here are grateful for the opportunity to work together and proud to have their fruits sold in global markets. It offers them the opportunity to get to know each other, especially all about one another’s families. The profits they make from drying their fruits allow them to send their children to school, pay for medical care and help maintain their families. Plus, they all agree, “there is power in unity.”
